M.G.H. Gilliam, Chairman and President
With an early background in music and opera production, Marion Gilliam went on to earn a law degree at the Sorbonne in Paris. He worked for Schroeder’s Bank in London and New York before founding Givens Hall Capital Management, an investment company. He is the founder of Orion magazine and The Orion Society.

Peter Blanchard is active in the areas of land conservation and environmental education, and claims both New York City and Somesville, Maine, as home bases. He is a founder of Greenwood Gardens, a New Jersey nonprofit organization promoting historic garden restoration, horticulture, natural history, and open space preservation. Among other projects, Peter also rides herd on a coastal island preserve in Maine. Landscape painting and drawing are a passion.

Marc Fasteau is the founder and chairman of the board of Arx Holding Corp./American Strategic Insurance, a property & casualty insurance group, and a managing director of Fulcrum Partners, a venture capital firm specializing in the development of new insurance companies and boutique hotels. An investment banker and former partner of Dillon Read & Co.,  he is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was a member of the board of editors of the Harvard Law Review.  He also served on the professional staffs of the Joint Economic Committee of the US Congress and the US Senate Majority Leader and was the Staff Director and Counsel of a Rockefeller Foundation funded Study Commission on US Policy Toward South Africa.

Daniel Imhoff is co-founder, director, and publisher of Watershed Media, which produces action-oriented, visually dynamic communication resources to influence the transition to a sustainable society. He is a writer and researcher on issues related to food, the environment, and design, and is the author of numerous articles, essays, and books, including Paper or Plastic: Searching for Solutions to an Overpackaged World (Watershed Media/Sierra Club Books 2005); Farming with the Wild: Enhancing Biodiversity on Farms and Ranches (Watershed Media/Sierra Club Books 2003); Building with Vision: Optimizing and Finding Alternatives to Wood (Watershed Media, 2001); and Foundation for Deep Ecology: The First Ten Years (Foundation for Deep Ecology 2000), among other titles.

Wendy Tarlow Kaplan’s career has been in the fine arts. She trained at the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), and has worked as a curator at the Fogg Art Museum, the Art Complex Museum, the Fuller Museum of Art, and the Women’s Studies Research Center, Brandeis University. She has written for Art New England and contributed essays to the New England Encyclopedia. She served on the Mayor’s Council for the Arts, Newton, MA, and on the board of Environmental Arts. She lives in New York City and Boston.

Kathleen Dean Moore is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Oregon State University and the founding director of the Spring Creek Project for Ideas, Nature, and the Written Word. Her current work is in the areas of environmental ethics and philosophy and nature, where she has published three award-winning books of essays: The Pine Island Paradox; Holdfast; and Riverwalking. She is co-editor of a forthcoming collection of articles about Rachel Carson’s legacy. At Oregon State, Moore teaches the Philosophy of Nature; Environmental Ethics; and Critical Thinking. Kathy and her husband Frank, an OSU biologist, have two grown children.

Chris Nye: a professor and then college administrator for many years, Chris has been active in instituting programs that promote college-to-community partnerships and place-based education. Chris holds a Ph.D. in American Studies, is active in local conservation efforts, builds stone walls, and writes poetry.

Scott Slovic is Professor of Literature and Environment and chair of the graduate program in literature and environment at the University of Nevada, Reno. He is the author of numerous articles on eco-criticism and has authored or edited ten books including The ISLE Reader: Ecocriticsm, 1993-2003.

Julia Harte Widdowson raises grass-fed Devon cows in Millbrook, New York. She currently serves on the boards of American Farmland Trust, the Institute for Ecosystem Studies, and the International Council of the Musee des Arts Decoratifs.
